Peter King of Sports Illustrated talked to Packers general manager Ted Thompson about the Brett Favre situation, and you get the sense that Thompson thinks Favre has put him in an awkward situation, a situation in which there are no easy answers:
“We’re in a unique situation, obviously. I don’t know who’s ever had to face a situation like this before.”
Then Thompson paused.
“We don’t have the answers. I wish someone would call me with the right answer,” he said. “But I haven’t heard from anyone. [Meaning his peers in front offices league-wide.] I think I’m a hot potato right now.”
Thompson’s job is to help the Packers win, not to do what Packers fans think he should do, and certainly not to make Favre happy. But he’s obviously agonizing over deciding what, exactly, will best help the Packers win when it comes to the Favre comeback.
