One of the many, many stories that keep Jets fans a pessimistic bunch is the one where the Cardinals passed on a Jets trade offer in the second round of the 1991 Draft and made a deal with the Falcons instead. The Jets wanted to move up a spot to assure they got Brett Favre, the Falcons took him and the Jets ended up with Browning Nagle. Ron Wolf, the Jets personnel guy who yearned for Favre, went to Green Bay the next season and the rest, as they say, is history.

With the current quarterback battle between Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens leaving many underwhelmed, it was thought the Jets might get involved in bidding for Favre again this season. With all the improvements the Jets made this offseason, a Hall of Fame quarterback might be just the thing to get the team into the hunt. According to the , however, the idea’s a non-starter.
“It’s a long shot right now that the Jets have any interest. I wouldn’t spend any time on that,” an NFL source familiar with the Jets’ thinking told the Saturday. “I can’t rule out 100% they won’t have interest, but I would say it’s 90%-95%. I would be very surprised if he wound up with the Jets.”
The source did say that the Jets might have interest if the Packers released Favre but that seems highly unlikely. The reasons won’t surprise anyone who’s followed the Favre soap opera.Continue Reading
