ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes will miss the Super Bowl champions' preseason game against Cleveland on Monday night because of a knee injury.
Tynes, who was the only place-kicker in camp, wrenched his left knee Sunday when his foot slipped while kicking.
"I've never missed five days in a row of kicking," Tynes said Friday, adding that he has never missed a game. But he said he is trying to be cautious with so many games still to come.
The Giants signed Josh Huston on Friday to kick against the Browns. Huston was with the team in training camp last season. His battle with Tynes might have been the tightest for a roster spot.
Huston was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad in October but was cut less than a week later.
Tynes had an outstanding season, making 23 of 27 field goal attempts in the regular season. He was 5-of-7 in the postseason, highlighted by a winning field 47-yard field goal in overtime in the NFC title game against Green Bay.
The Giants acquired offensive lineman Cliff Louis on waivers from Cleveland on Friday. The former Morgan State player spent last season on the Browns' practice squad.
