--C-G Grey Ruegamer's status with the Giants didn't gain clarity during the draft. He is part of the UFA list at the moment and hadn't yet been offered a contract as the selections concluded. According to reports, the player and the team have remained friendly and Ruegamer is aware that the Giants are going to review their draft and decide if they need to re-sign him. He is amenable to returning for the 2009 season.
--General manager Jerry Reese insists the Giants are not finished with UFA signings, although he would not elaborate on which positions he may look to bolster.
"It depends on a lot of things," he says, "but we are always looking for opportunities and we will explore any opportunity presented."
--The Giants first two draft picks not only played for schools in the ACC (North Carolina, Virginia) but for head coaches with previous NFL experience (Butch Davis, Al Groh).
QUOTE TO NOTE: "He could have been right up there at the top with some of those other tackles that got taken early. He really has great feet for a tackle but he's raw. With our situation he doesn't have to come in [and play] right away. He can learn from the guys we have." -- Giants' Director of Scouting Marc Ross on OT William Beatty, the second of two second-round draft picks.
