--CB Brandon Sumrall, acquired on waivers from the Indianapolis Colts, lasted exactly one day with the Giants. He failed his physical (broken foot) and was dispatched less than 24 hours after being added to the roster.
--Former Giants' LB Nick Greisen, drafted in the fifth round in 2002, has been signed to a one-year contract by the Denver Broncos. Greisen played four years with the Giants, then joined Tennessee until being released this spring.
--LB Michael Boley, signed as a UFA from Atlanta, spent his Falcons' career playing the strong side, but he'll go to weak side with the Giants.
"He seems more suited for that role," said defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan, "and he's an outstanding pass rusher, which we like to do from that position."
--TE Travis Beckum, the second of two third-round picks, appears to have been chiseled in the mold of the perfect H-back. He is 6-3, 230, with good speed and should be used in that "move" position as well as serving as the backup for starter Kevin Boss.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "When the wind starts to swirl around here (Giants Stadium), and when it gets cold around here, throw him a short pass and he could be a nightmare for some matchup problems with linebackers and strong safeties." -- General manager Jerry Reese on the skills of TE Travis Beckum.
