--Former Giants WR Tim Carter (second-round pick via Auburn, 2002) has signed with the St. Louis Rams. Carter spent five generally lackluster seasons with the Giants before being traded to Cleveland for RB Reuben Droughns. He was released after the 2007 season, signed in Houston and was released in training camp last year.
--RB Danny Ware, who has yet to carry the ball in a regular-season game, insists he can be the Giants' replacement for Derrick Ward, last year's 1,025-yard rusher who signed with Tampa Bay.
"I feel I can replace Derrick all day every day," he wrote on his blog. "They (the Giants) don't have to bring in any more running backs."
Ware and rookie Andre Brown (fourth round) will join Ahmad Bradshaw in the competition for the No. 2 spot behind starter Brandon Jacobs.
--Director of scouting Marc Ross liked OT Will Beatty despite his relative lack of "finesse" when compared to the other draft-eligible tackles who went in the first round.
"He has natural raw ability and it won't be hard to teach him," he said. "He has very long arms (36-inch reach) and still did 29 reps with the 225-pound bench press. That's impressive."
Beatty will join Guy Whimper and Adam Koets in competition for the first backup tackle job -- and should win it.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's always nice to have a big "Spider Man" at wide receiver and with (the first of two third-round picks) I think we got one, a young kid who can develop and really hit it big." -- Giants' GM Jerry Reese on the drafting of 6-6, 230-pound WR Ramses Barden.
