--RB Danny Ware, fourth on the depth chart, was arrested over the bye weekend in Athens, Ga., where he attended college at the University of Georgia, for public intoxication and intoxication in a roadway. He was issued two summonses and probably will have to appear later in October to answer the charges. He says it was not an issue of drunkenness. "Yes, I had been drinking," he said, "but I was in the street trying to flag down a taxi."
--WR Mario Manningham was taken to a local N.J. hospital Wednesday for what had appeared to be flu symptoms. But when he continued to be sick and could not hold food down, the team became concerned and sent him for tests.
--WR Domenik Hixon will start Sunday instead of the regular, Plaxico Burress, who is serving a one-game (and two week) suspension for missing a practice the day after the last game, Sept. 22. Burress appealed the decision and reportedly had half the fine canceled (down to $117,000 and change), but remains inactive for Seattle.
--Head coach Tom Coughlin has not decided yet on his PK situation, the one that has him carrying two on the active roster, incumbent Lawrence Tynes and veteran John Carney, signed on cutdown day. Tynes (sprained knee) says he's all right now and could kick against Seattle, but Coughlin has said, in effect, not so fast. Coughlin said it's a nice problem to have and agreed that perhaps the best decision would be no decision at all.
--The last time the Giants played the Seahawks, several of the players complained about the undue noise from the stands, including during the pregame warmups. That apparently led the NFL to investigate, and while nothing has ever been confirmed, it seems likely that "sound enhancing electronics" were placed around the stands on the ground. That no longer seems to be the case.
--The Giants have allowed three opponents to gain a total of just 596 yards passing and 254 rushing, in each case under 100 yards per game in each category. "We can be better," said MLB Antonio Pierce. "Right after we won the Super Bowl (last Feb. 3) I told people our defense was very good but that it could get a lot better. We're working on it."
--Rookie LB Jonathan Goff, who missed much of the summer with a fractured transverse process (in the lower back; not serious but painful) has been taking reps at SLB and MLB and may have moved ahead of second-year linebacker Zak DeOssie as the first backup to SLB Danny Clark.
BY THE NUMBERS: 4 -- The number of sacks the Giants' O-line has allowed, keeping QB Eli Manning upright and unpressured for most of the season.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I can say this and do that and whatever I feel and then I accept the position that there is not a whole lot I can do about it, so let's play it as dealt." -- Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, asked whether he liked the early bye-break or not playing many NFC East foes earlier in the season.
