New York Giants Notes, Quotes 2008-12-13
--QB Eli Manning insists there is no added incentive in Sunday night's game against the Cowboys, even though a Giant victory could drop Dallas from playoff consideration. "Our motivation is getting back to playing good football," he said. "It's Dallas and it's at Dallas and that's always a big game. But all we want to do is wrap up a first-round bye."

--Of interest is the fact that Manning and Romo are 1-2 in the NFL in fourth quarter passing efficiency. "Neither guy makes many mistakes late in the game," coach Tom Coughlin said. "Both are outstanding quarterbacks and that should make for a great game."

--Former Giant WR Mark Ingram, a star of the team's victory in Super Bowl XXV, is being sought by the police for failing to report to begin serving a jail sentence for money laundering and bank fraud. His son, Mark, is a standout running back at the University of Alabama, and the father had indicated he wanted to remain free so that he could watch his son play in the Tide's bowl game.

--QB Eli Manning has won the "George Young Good Guy" award from the New York chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America. This was the eighth award, named after the late general manager. It is given for consistent and outstanding cooperation with the media that covers the team on a daily basis. Manning is the third QB to win the award in eight years; the others were Kerry Collins and Kurt Warner.

--RB Brandon Jacobs, the team's rushing leader with 1,002 yards, isn't sure he's going to be well enough to play Sunday night. He suffered a bruised knee last week vs. the Eagles. "It's sore," Jacobs said. "It took a kind of hard fall on it and it was painful. I don't know about Sunday, that's up to the people who have been making those calls for a long time. I'd like to play but I don't want to do anything to disrupt this playoff run."

--A Giants' victory would clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs and probably drop Dallas from the list of wild-card hopefuls, but if Jacobs rests and makes sure he's ready for the following week, another Sunday nighter at home against Carolina, it could be the showdown for the home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

--DE Justin Tuck lost a sack from last week and now has 111/2 for the season. He had been given one when Eagles' QB Donovan McNabb slipped and fell and Tuck tagged him. But now the NFL and the Elias Bureau has determined that McNabb intended to run and gave him a minus-four in net rushing loss.

BY THE NUMBERS: 17 -- The Giants have 36 sacks for the season, well below the 53 they recorded last year. So they'd need 17 in their last four games to even tie that 2007 mark.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Usually when we get ready for a game, I tell the guys to pretend they just lost their last game. This week I don't have to work about that being accurate." -- Giants' head coach Tom Coughlin.
