Hall of Fame quarterback and former Giant Y.A. Tittle said there aren't many similarities between the 2008 Giants and some of the Giants teams he played with during his career in New York.
"Well, they still wear shoulder pads, that's probably about it," joked Tittle, who donated a $27,500 grant to the Fire Department of New York on behalf of his company, Y.A. Tittle & Associates Insurance Services, yesterday in Manhattan.
Regardless of the differences between his former teams and the current 9-1 squad, Tittle finds this year's Giants a thrill.
"I thought it was great," Tittle said of Sunday's 30-10 victory over the Ravens, a game in which he served as honorary captain. "People said it was boring because it wasn't an exciting [game], but when you win overwhelmingly, I call it exciting if it's my team."
Tittle thinks the Giants have a good shot to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
"This year, I see no reason why they can't repeat," Tittle said. "They have outstanding offense, defense, everything. Every department is good."
That said, he still believes that some of the Giants teams he quarterbacked from 1961-64 would prevail in a head-to-head competition.
"We had a great team, some great offensive power, great receivers ... and we had great defense," Tittle said. "So I'm sure people would say they'd beat us, but we don't think so."
